FAQs

The Farmer's Dog

Maybe, but we can’t be sure. He doesn’t need to let anyone know when he’s popping in for a pint because, well, it’s his pub. Just remember, he’s got a farm to run and a TV show to make so he’s not here all the time.

Absolutely. But we’re a very busy pub so ideally just a dog and not, say, a pack of nine St Bernards per person. Other pets are not so welcome. After all, we’re not called The Farmer’s Six Cats & A Rabbit.

We do our best to accommodate all dietary requirements, from gluten free to vegan, just let us know when you book online. But please remember we use only British ingredients, many of which are seasonal, which means there might be a limited choice that meets your needs.

As part of our commitment to back British farming we insist that only totally British foods products are brought into the pub, and that includes birthday cakes. So first you’ll need to find a British producer of cacao beans for chocolate (and if you do, can you tell us how to get hold of them).

Motorhomes are welcome to use the general car park during opening hours, however, overnight parking and camping is not permitted.

Yes. Blue badge parking is available and no prior notice is needed — the car park team will be on hand to assist on the day. The pub itself is fully accessible, though as a historic building it does have some limitations, including the absence of an accessible toilet on site. Accessible facilities are available in the Grand Tour tent next door.

No, we don't currently have electric vehicle charging facilities on site.

As a busy establishment, we receive a high volume of requests and are unfortunately unable to accommodate special requests for individual occasions.

Yes!

You only need a booking to eat in the pub restaurant.

So you’re very welcome to turn up for a drink, something from The Farmer’s Puppy or The Farmer’s Dough, or just to stand around with a pint and admire the view.

In fact, plenty of people do exactly that.

Yes. Sunday roasts are served on Sundays. We did consider doing them on a Tuesday, but it didn’t feel right.

No. If you’re eating in the pub, everyone orders from the pub menu. There’s plenty to choose from, even for those who are mainly interested in chips.

Not specifically. All tables are allocated when you arrive, and we can’t guarantee where you’ll be seated. The good news is, they’re all good tables.

No. But we do have dishes that children can eat. What’s available depends on what our suppliers have. Our team will let you know the menu on arrival.

Reservations

You can only make a booking via the booking widget on our website. We don’t take bookings via email, social media DM, postcard, telegram, carrier pigeon, or by phone. In fact, we don’t even have a phone number.

We release tables one month at a time, at 9am on the first day of the previous month.

So, for example, June tables are released at 9am on May 1st, July tables at 9am on June 1st, and so on.

They tend to go fairly quickly, so being ready at 9am is not the worst idea you’ll have that day.

You can cancel your reservation via your booking widget. If you're still having trouble, email your query to [email protected]. We don't have a phone number, so calling isn't an option.

Yes. If a booking isn't honoured or is cancelled with fewer than 24 hours' notice, a £35 per person fee applies.

Please email [email protected] to let us know.

We’ll hold your table for 15 minutes as standard, and after that for as long as we can. However, we are a very busy pub, so there are limits to how long we can keep it waiting.

In short, the sooner you tell us, the better your chances.

Weddings, wakes, corporate functions, enormous birthday parties. We don’t do any of those things, or anything like them. Sorry.

Yes. They’re people. If you book a table for four, we’re expecting four humans in total, regardless of height, age or ability to throw potatoes. So four adults and a child is five, not “four and a bonus”. We completely understand that small children don’t take up much space. Unfortunately, chairs, plates and basic laws of physics still apply. So please include everyone when you book, and we’ll make sure there’s room for all of you.

Because we don’t release tables months and months in advance.

We do it one month at a time so everyone has a fair chance, rather than everything disappearing six months ahead to people with extremely organised diaries.

Our biggest tables are for eight people. And don’t try to be cunning by booking a table for five and another for six thinking you can push them together, they’ll likely be on opposite sides of the pub and that won’t work. Nice try but sorry, no.

Afraid not. If a guest cancels a table, that table is re-released onto our booking widget. But as professional snipers sometimes say, you only have to be lucky once.

Unfortunately not. Due to our limited capacity, we're unable to move or adjust reservations to seat multiple bookings together.

Visiting us

To eat in the pub, yes. Tables are released a month at a time, starting at the beginning of the previous month, and they go fast, especially for weekends.

But if you want to pop in for a drink, shop in The Grand Tour Tent or eat at The Farmer's Puppy/Dough food trucks there’s no booking needed.

Orders & Delivery

Orders are processed within 1 to 4 business days of your confirmation email. During busy periods like Christmas or promotions, it might take a little longer. You'll get a dispatch notification once it's on its way.

In the UK our average delivery time is 2-5 working days. But it can depend on where you are and the time of year so in general we ask you to give it up to 7 days for your order to arrive. We ship to the United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland but not the Highlands or Islands). Any order with a shipping address outside of our delivery region will be cancelled and your payment card refunded.

Delivery Costs (UK):

Orders £0.00–£20.00: £8.50 standard delivery, or £10.50 with proof of delivery.

Orders £20.01–£60.00: £5.00 standard delivery, or £7.00 with proof of delivery.

Orders £60.01 and over: Free (with proof of delivery)

Please note: Buying digital items such as gift cards does not count towards hitting the free delivery threshold amount.

We deliver across the UK - England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We can't deliver to the Scottish Highlands, Scottish Islands, Channel Islands, or Isle of Man. If your address falls outside our delivery area, your order will be cancelled and refunded in full.

Once your order has shipped, you’ll get an InPost tracking number by email and/or to your mobile number. You’ll then be able to follow your order through their network until it’s delivered. It’s even easier if you download the InPost app from the Apple or Android App Store. You can let them know you’re going to be out and to leave the package in a safe place of your choosing or with a neighbour. As long as they’re not a thirsty thief of a neighbour.

Yes. You have 14 days from the date of delivery to request a return, provided the item is unused, unopened, and in its original condition.

Returns are initiated and managed through our returns portal. Simply follow the steps in the portal to register your return. No need to contact us first. A small handling and courier fee will be deducted from the refund total.

Your refund timeline begins once your return has been received at our distribution centre. Both you and our Customer Service team will have access to tracking so you can follow your parcel's progress.

Once received, please allow 14 days for your return to be processed. If there is a problem with your return, we'll be in touch.

During busy periods, processing times may be a little longer than usual. We appreciate your patience.

Once your refund has been actioned, you'll receive a confirmation email with the refund details. Please allow up to 10 days for the funds to appear in your account, depending on your payment provider.

Returns work like this: anything bought in person at Hops & Chops needs to be returned in person complying with the Hops & Chops return policy. Anything bought through our online shop falls under our online returns policy.

Age verification

We are required to ensure that our products can only be purchased by those of a legal age to do so. Under UK law, it is illegal to sell or supply alcohol to any individuals under the age of 18. To make sure that our customers are of a legal age to buy our products, we require them to confirm their age when placing an order.

To make this process as seamless and accurate as possible, we use AgeChecked, the UK government-approved age verification service. We use the details you provide when placing an order, like your name and address, to automatically verify your age.

On the rare occasion the initial check cannot be completed automatically, a pop-up will be displayed where you will be asked for additional information on the order summary page. If we cannot confirm your age your order will not be processed.

AgeChecked do not store any personal data collected during the verification process. Customer information is anonymised and used only to complete the check. Your data will not be shared with any third parties.
